Matt The Webmaster

Dabbling

Matt only started dabbling in the net back in the summer of 2002 when The Woodham Writers needed a website. Back then it was a free site, part of the MSN groups community. But the following year Matt wanted better and began to create www.woodhamwriters.co.uk

The site was launched in September 2003, and it was shortly followed by another migrant from the MSN Groups site www.bustercomic.co.uk a tribute to Buster a comic which ran for 40 years in the UK.

DIY HTML

Matt taught himself HTML for both sites, picking up tips from W3 Schools as a guide. Both sites were hosted with MCOMS, not only the cheapest hosting on the net, but also run by a mate - and it does help!!

The early Woodham Writers Site was quite basic but it did the job. However, in a bid to try and be different, Matt used Buster Comic to experiment with different styles - this easily led to two very different sites.

Web As Work

When Matt started work at Dream 107.7, his internet knowledge quickly led him to running their website, although this was slightly different. An outside company did most of the work and Matt just updated the pages. This became infuriating as progress was often slow, but the website was changed beyond recognition in Matt's time there, becoming a really useful tool to help market the station and pull in new listeners.

Meanwhile, Matt was getting tired of the old look for the Woodham Writers site. Some sections weren't working as well as others and it needed to look fresher and brighter, like the Buster site did.

A Relaunch and a Revamp

Following his departure from Dream, Matt had more time to focus on his two sites and worked hard on them. The Woodham Writers was given a complete makeover and relaunched in September 2005, whilst Buster Comic was given a much needed injection of knowledge and pictures leading to it becoming the most comprehensive Buster site on the net.

Matt's Buster site has also encouraged at least two new sites, including Another Buster Site by an Australian fan of the comic and a third Buster website which is in production to launch in 2006.

The Future

In November 2005, Matt was confirmed as the official webmaster for Hospital Radio Chelmsford maintaining their site.He continued with this until March 2007.

Since then, Matt's been kept quite busy. In January 2006 he received his first order for a website that wasn't for his own use. Cockney Pride was built in six weeks, and closely followed by a relaunch of a current site for the Pearly King and Queen. The two sister sites began producing results almost instantly when Cockney Pride got their first order from the website within weeks of launch. Additionally, Matt has also built a website for local swim school Get In The Swim. Each of these sites were built using XHTML - the upgraded version of HTML. You can find links to all of these sites here

Matt added to his websites in January 2008 by launching a site for the drama group he's involved in. Matt is willing to build sites to XHTML standards for any business or individual. Click here to contact him for more details.
