Colchester Garrison Radio Station Manager & Breakfast Presenter August 2006 - August 2007

After several successful stints covering the Breakfast show I was asked to become Acting Station Manager to bridge the gap between the departure of their current employee and start of the next.

This was upgraded in January 2007 to Station Manager as they were pleased with the work I had done for the station.

Other then the Breakfast show, duties include producing Promos for their breaks, recording and editing interviews for playout on air, dealing with technical problems that arise and managing the volunteers that present the evening shows on the station.

There is also a requirment for organising on air competitions and promotions, and fronting Garrison FM events.

Colchester Garrison Radio Freelance Presenter November 2005 - August 2006

I covered their only live show, the Breakfast show several times over the nine-month period, before I was asked to become Acting Station Manager in August 2006. I was also responsible for recording interviews that were played into the show.

Mix 107 Freelance Presenter September 2005 - December 2006

In September 2005 I was asked to cover the weekday lunchtime shift at Mix 107 in High Wycombe. Before starting I was trained how to use ENCO which I picked up really quickly. They were so impressed in November 2005 they offered me a full time Saturday morning shift.

I left Mix in December 2006 to concentrate more on my commitments for Garrison. On my departure I was informed that should circumstances change I would be welcomed back.

Dream 107.7 Freelance Presenter October 2004 to July 2005

Despite the loss of my full time job in June 2005, I continued with freelance work on the pre-recorded Early Breakfast & live Saturday Afternoon shows for a further month. I have also covered the Evening Show and various other live weekend slots since starting at Dream 107.7. I have also been a studio-based tech-op for various outside broadcasts, and have set up the comrex/tieline for many of these. Sadly a month after I lost my full time job, I was dropped from the schedule when it was changed for the summer.

Dream 107.7 FM Station Assistant October 2004 to June 2005.

I first became involved with Dream 107.7 as a voluntary worker in June 2004, going in three days a week and doing some general office work, and keeping live read scripts up to date. In October 2004, I became Station Assistant, which incorporated some minor production work, general DIY jobs around the office, some technical jobs within the office and responsibility for the traffic logs and uploading the incoming adverts. I was also involved with the loading of songs onto RCS, and began to learn more about how the scheduling side of the system works. Sadly due to a programming restructure in June 2005, I was made redundant. The work was split amongst the rest of the staff.

Phoenix FM Mid Morning Presenter May 2004

During May 2004 I was involved in an RSL for Brentwood. Presenting Phoenix FM's Mid Morning show I interviewed local guests as well as creating competitions for the listeners to take part in.

Experience

I’ve used RCS as a playout system since I began doing voluntary work at Dream 107.7. I can VT shows into the system with ease, and I’ve used it as a live broadcast system since my first live show. Since then I covered many of the shows in the schedule before taking over Saturday Afternoons in February 2005. Additionally, I was loading songs onto the system and creating carts for them, filling in all the necessary details on each new song that is added. I’ve also more recently learnt how to use ENCO and Soundbox as a live playout system and can record calls and edit them up on the system.

As Traffic Manager (a job incorporated by the Station Assistant umbrella), I used Broadnet for Traffic Scheduling from October 2004. My main responsibilities were running the logs, assigning carts to missing copy, and chasing orders and commercials and the copy clear down at the end of each month.

I presented The Happy Hour on Hospital Radio Chelmsford from September 2001 to December 2004, and used Myriad and Stinger as playout systems.

I have two websites for The Woodham Writers Group and a fansite for Buster Comic I taught myself HTML web building skills. These are updated on a regular basis. I also worked on the website for Dream 107.7, and in conjunction with website providers TMS introduced new ideas to make the site more appealing to the visitor and make them want to come back including show pages updated daily and advance information about competitions on the station. Finally in November 2005 I was given the role of webmaster for The Hospital Radio Chelmsford website.

In June 2004 the writing group I belong put together a compilation of work to raise money for Children In Need. As editor, my role was partly to help selling advertising space to raise money for the printing, but mainly collaborating everything and putting it together. The book was completed in November 2004.
